Methods: In this prospective randomized-controlled trial study, 70 patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery bypass graft surgery were randomly assigned to receive either colloid (Voluven) or crystalloid (Lactated ringer’s) as prime solution, for initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass machine procedure. Tissue and organ perfusion markers including lactate, troponin I, liver and renal function tests and electrolytes were measured sequentially, before induction (T1) to second days after surgery (T5). Results: With exception of chloride and potassium levels no significant differences detected in other measurements, and the laboratory results were entirely identical in both procedures. Conclusion: There was no significant difference between Voluven® ( hydroxyethyl starch, HES 130/0.4) and crystalloid (Lactated ringer’s) as priming solution on the basis of organ and tissue perfusion tests assessment.

متن کاملComparison of the Effect of Voluven and Ringer Solution in Cardiopulmonary Bypass on the Bleeding After the Surgery and Renal Function in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgeries
Background: This study compared the effect of Voluven and Ringer solution in cardiopulmonary bypass on the bleeding after the surgery and renal function in coronary artery bypass graft surgeries. Methods: Two types of prime solution including ringer - as Crystalloid- and Voluven were used in two groups and compared in terms of bleeding and renal function during the first 24 hours after the surg...
متن کاملEffects of acute plasma volume expansion on renal perfusion, filtration, and oxygenation after cardiac surgery: a randomized study on crystalloid vs colloid.
BACKGROUND In the present randomized study, we evaluated the differential effects of a colloid and a crystalloid fluid on renal oxygen delivery (RD(O2)), glomerular filtration (GFR), renal oxygen consumption ((RV(O2))), and the renal oxygen supply-demand relationship (i.e., renal oxygenation) after cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass. METHODS Thirty patients with normal preoperative r...

Objective: Different types of colloidal priming for cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) have been used to reduce ̄uid load and to avoid the fall of plasma colloid osmotic pressure (COP) that leads to edema formation and consequently can cause organ dysfunction. The discussion about the optimal priming composition, however, is still controversial. We investigated the effect of a hyperoncotic CPB-prime ...
متن کاملThe Effect of ringer Lactate as the Priming Solution of the Cardiopulmonary by Pass Circuit on Plasma Potassium Levels after Open Heart Surgery in Children
Background: Conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) due to the higher volume of priming solution in comparison to the total blood volume in children requires careful consideration. Recently attention has been focused on the potential risk of hyperkalemia in these patients. Given its significant effects on cardiac rhythm, hyperkalemia is considered a medical emergency. In this cross-sectional st...
